About

In January 2020 Bedford Borough Council adopted a new Local Plan for Bedford that will guide growth in the borough until 2030. The Plan earmarks the Ford End Road and South of the River areas to be new town centre neighbourhoods consisting of housing, shops, community uses and infrastructure, as proposed in a masterplan for the area that was approved by the Council in 2018.

To help create a neighbourhood which is sustainable, resilient and attractive, HTA Design have been appointed by Bedford Borough Council to draw up a comprehensive Planning Brief and Design Code for both areas, working in partnership with property owners to guide the future character of development proposals. This will build upon the masterplanning work which has already been undertaken.

HTA Design is a company made up of urban designers, architects, planners, landscape architects and sustainability experts. We specialise in the design of places by working in close partnership with community and statutory stakeholders. We have more than 50 years of experience in delivering residential development and masterplans.

On behalf of Bedford Borough Council, HTA Design are hosting virtual workshops on the 5th and 6th of May. We would like to hear your thoughts on what you like about this area, and your ideas on what you want to see in the future – such as what types of housing and community facilities there should be, what sort of open spaces, and how we can overcome challenges such as climate change.
